Aerial view of Koh Larn showing tropical beaches, island coastline, piers and green hills

Koh Larn looks small on a map, but understanding the island’s layout can make a major difference to your trip.

The beaches aren’t all located beside the same arrival point. Hotels and restaurants are spread across different parts of the island. Viewpoints sit above the coastline, and getting from a pier to your chosen beach requires understanding where you’re going before you arrive.

That’s why a Koh Larn map is useful for more than simply locating the island.

It helps answer the questions that matter when you’re actually planning a visit:

Where will I arrive?

Where are the best-known beaches?

Which beach should I visit first?

Where should I stay?

Where can I eat?

How do I get between beaches?

Can I explore Koh Larn without a scooter?

This guide breaks Koh Larn into the geographic areas and routes travelers need to understand.

The Island in Numbers, So the Map Makes Sense

Koh Larn is about four kilometres long and no more than two wide. That sounds walkable and it is not, because the interior is hilly and the roads between beaches climb. Distances on Koh Larn are short and slow, which is the single thing a flat map will not tell you.

Where you arrive. Ferries land at one of two places: Na Baan, the working village on the east side, or Tawaen on the north-east. Which one depends on the sailing, not on your preference — so plan for either. Speedboats can drop directly at Tawaen, Samae or Ta Yai, which is the real argument for paying for one.

The six beaches, and where they sit

Tawaen sits on the north-east and is the longest at 700 metres — closest to the piers, busiest, most restaurants. Samae is on the west, 500 metres, and is the usual second stop. Tien is on the south-west, quieter, reached by a short walk or a boat hop. Nual is on the south at 250 metres, with a coral reef close enough to snorkel from the sand. Ta Yai is the northernmost at 100 metres with one restaurant on it. Tonglang, 200 metres, has no road to it at all — you walk or you arrive by boat, which is exactly why it stays empty.

Getting between them

A shared songthaew from the pier to a beach is ฿40 to ฿70 per person depending on distance. A motorbike taxi will tour the whole island for around ฿400, which is the cheapest way to see more than one beach in a day. A scooter to yourself is ฿200 to ฿300 for the day from Na Baan or Tawaen, ฿300 to ฿400 for 24 hours, and anything over 110cc legally needs a motorcycle licence or an International Driving Permit that covers motorcycles.

Can you do it without a scooter? Yes, if you pick one beach and stay on it. No, if you want three. The hills are the reason — a two-kilometre walk between beaches here is not a two-kilometre walk on the flat.

Where Is Koh Larn?

Koh Larn, also commonly called Coral Island, is an island in the Gulf of Thailand off the coast of Pattaya.

Most visitors approach the island from Pattaya.

The basic geographic relationship is:

Pattaya → Bali Hai Pier → Gulf of Thailand → Koh Larn

Once you arrive on Koh Larn, the trip changes from a mainland-to-island journey into an island transportation problem.

That’s where understanding the map becomes particularly useful.

Understanding the Koh Larn Map

Instead of thinking about Koh Larn as one beach destination, picture it as several interconnected zones.

The important geographic elements are:

Arrival areas and piers

Na Baan area

Tawaen Beach

Tien Beach

Samae Beach

Nual Beach

Ta Yai Beach

Tong Lang Beach

Interior roads

Hills and viewpoints

Hotels and guesthouses

Restaurants and cafes

Once you understand these pieces, planning the island becomes much easier.

Koh Larn Piers

One of the first things visitors should understand is that arriving on Koh Larn doesn’t necessarily mean arriving directly beside the beach where they intend to spend the day.

Your arrival point affects what happens next.

After getting off the boat, you may need to continue to:

Your beach

Hotel

Restaurant

Viewpoint

Another part of the island

Before traveling, confirm the current departure and arrival details for the specific ferry, speedboat or service you’re using.

Na Baan Pier and the Main Arrival Area

Na Baan is one of the most important locations to recognize on a Koh Larn map.

For many travelers, this area functions as an important arrival and transportation point.

It is useful because visitors can potentially connect from the arrival area toward different parts of the island rather than being committed to a single beach.

The area is particularly relevant for:

First-time visitors

Travelers staying overnight

Visitors with luggage

People staying near the pier

Travelers heading toward multiple beaches

Visitors who aren’t renting scooters

Na Baan should therefore be one of the first landmarks you identify when looking at the island map.

Tawaen Pier

Tawaen is another important arrival-related location.

It matters because Tawaen Beach is one of Koh Larn’s major visitor beaches.

If your transportation brings you into this side of the island and Tawaen is your destination, your onward journey may be much simpler.

If you’re going somewhere else, you’ll need to understand how Tawaen fits into the island’s transportation network.

Always verify the current route and arrival point of the service you’re using rather than assuming every boat follows the same route.

Koh Larn Beaches Map

Beaches define the island geographically for most visitors.

The major names you should recognize are:

Beach

General Trip Style

Tawaen Beach

Convenient, active, first-time visitors

Tien Beach

Scenic, relaxed beach day

Samae Beach

Longer beach stay and relaxation

Nual Beach

Exploring beyond the most obvious choices

Ta Yai Beach

Smaller-scale, quieter experience

Tong Lang Beach

Additional beach option and repeat visits

These descriptions are travel-planning shortcuts rather than permanent rankings. Crowds, conditions and services can vary.

Tawaen Beach on the Map

Tawaen is one of the easiest names to recognize when researching Koh Larn.

It’s particularly relevant for travelers who want to combine:

Beach

Swimming

Food

Visitor services

Water activities where available

Convenient island experience

Because Tawaen has strong visitor recognition, it can work particularly well for first-time visitors who don’t want a complicated itinerary.

Tien Beach on the Map

Tien Beach is another major location to mark before visiting.

Travelers often consider Tien when they want a scenic beach experience without making convenience their only priority.

It can work well for:

Couples

Swimming

Photography

Relaxation

A longer beach session

If Tien is your primary destination, determine your arrival point and transportation route before reaching the island.

Samae Beach on the Map

Samae is useful for travelers who want to spend a substantial portion of the day in one beach area.

Instead of trying to see everything, you can build an itinerary around:

Arrival → Samae → swimming → lunch → relaxation → second activity

Samae can also be combined with another part of the island if you have enough time.

Nual Beach on the Map

Nual is another beach worth identifying before your trip.

It becomes particularly useful for repeat visitors who have already experienced some of Koh Larn’s most prominent beaches.

If you’re building a beach-hopping itinerary, Nual can be considered alongside the other major beach areas.

Current conditions and available services should always be checked before committing to a full day at any beach.

Ta Yai Beach on the Map

Ta Yai is relevant to travelers looking for a smaller beach experience.

Its location is especially important because quieter beach choices may require more transportation planning.

If you’re visiting Ta Yai, investigate:

How you’ll get there

How you’ll leave

Food nearby

Current beach conditions

Transportation availability

The quieter the destination, the more important advance planning becomes.

Tong Lang Beach on the Map

Tong Lang adds another option for travelers who want to explore beyond the island’s most familiar beaches.

It can be particularly relevant to repeat visitors and people building a broader Koh Larn itinerary.

Rather than trying to visit every beach in a single day, save some locations for another trip.

Which Koh Larn Beach Is Closest to Your Arrival Point?

This depends on where your particular boat service arrives.

That’s why your transportation decision should come before your final beach route.

The correct planning sequence is:

1. Determine your mainland departure point.

2. Confirm your boat service.

3. Confirm where that service currently arrives on Koh Larn.

4. Locate your chosen beach.

5. Plan the connection between arrival point and beach.

This prevents a common mistake: choosing a beach without considering how you’ll reach it.

Koh Larn Beach-Hopping Map

Beach hopping works best when you don’t try to visit every beach.

A useful strategy is:

One-Day First Visit

Arrival → primary beach → lunch → secondary beach → return

Longer Day

Arrival → beach → lunch → second beach → viewpoint/cafe → return

Overnight

Day 1: arrival → beach → viewpoint → dinner

Day 2: second beach → lunch → departure

A map allows you to group locations instead of randomly traveling back and forth across the island.

Koh Larn Transportation Map

The island transportation network connects the piers, local areas, beaches and attractions.

Visitors may encounter different transportation options depending on location and current operations.

Rather than assuming one method will handle your entire trip, plan each major movement:

Pier → beach

Beach → second beach

Beach → viewpoint

Beach → hotel

Hotel → restaurant

Hotel → pier

Overnight visitors need to think particularly carefully about evening transportation.

Getting Around Koh Larn Without a Scooter

You don’t have to rent a scooter to explore Koh Larn.

If you aren’t an experienced rider, planning around other available transportation is the better approach.

Without a scooter, simplify the map.

Instead of:

six beaches + three viewpoints + restaurants all over the island

plan:

arrival → primary beach → second activity → departure

Overnight visitors should also consider accommodation location carefully.

A hotel near transportation, restaurants and the areas you want to visit can reduce unnecessary trips.

Koh Larn Road Map

Koh Larn’s roads connect the populated areas, beaches and elevated sections of the island.

Because the island has hills, a road that looks short on a flat digital map isn’t necessarily equivalent to an effortless walk or ride.

Consider:

Elevation

Heat

Road conditions

Traffic

Distance

Your physical ability

Transportation availability

Don’t estimate travel difficulty solely from how close two points appear on a map.

Can You Walk Around Koh Larn?

Walking can work for some short trips, but don’t assume the entire island should be explored on foot.

Heat and terrain matter.

A short-looking route can become uncomfortable in midday tropical conditions.

Walking makes the most sense for:

Exploring around your accommodation

Beachfront areas

Nearby restaurants

Short local connections

Scenic walks where conditions are appropriate

For longer island movements, transportation is usually more practical.

Koh Larn Attractions Map

Koh Larn’s attractions aren’t concentrated in one entertainment district.

Instead, the island itself is the attraction.

The main categories to map are:

Beaches

Viewpoints

Swimming areas

Snorkeling locations

Water activities

Restaurants

Cafes

Hotels

Scenic areas

This means the best sightseeing map is really a combination of geography and itinerary planning.

Koh Larn Viewpoints Map

Elevated viewpoints add an important dimension to an island trip.

From above, you can better appreciate:

Coastline

Beaches

Gulf of Thailand

Island terrain

Sunset or late-afternoon scenery

Photography opportunities

A viewpoint can work especially well as the second activity after several hours at the beach.

For example:

Morning beach → lunch → viewpoint → cafe → return

Koh Larn Photo Spots Map

The best photographs aren’t necessarily taken from one famous location.

Consider different perspectives:

Beach

Water, sand and island atmosphere.

Viewpoint

Coastline and panoramic scenery.

Boat

Island profile from offshore.

Cafe

Lifestyle and sea views.

Hotel

Overnight island atmosphere.

Late Afternoon

Softer light and dramatic landscapes.

Koh Larn Hotels Map

Accommodation location becomes important when staying overnight.

Before booking a hotel, locate it relative to:

Arrival point

Preferred beach

Restaurants

Transportation

Terrain

Other attractions

Two hotels can appear similar online while producing completely different trips because of location.

See our Koh Larn Hotels guide for accommodation planning.

Where Should You Stay on the Koh Larn Map?

There are two basic strategies.

Stay for Convenience

Prioritize:

Arrival

Transportation

Restaurants

Easy departure

Access to several parts of the island

This works well for first-time visitors and short stays.

Stay for the Beach Experience

Prioritize:

Preferred beach

Sea views

Swimming

Relaxation

Fewer daily transportation trips

This works well for couples and beach-focused trips.

Koh Larn Restaurants Map

Food should be included in your geographic planning.

Instead of picking restaurants independently of your itinerary, combine them.

Day Trip

Arrival → beach → nearby lunch → second activity → departure

Overnight

Arrival → hotel → beach → nearby dinner → hotel

Beach Hopping

Beach 1 → lunch → Beach 2

This minimizes unnecessary transportation.

See our Koh Larn Restaurants guide.

Na Baan Restaurants on the Map

Na Baan can be particularly useful for overnight visitors and travelers moving through the arrival area.

Eating here may make sense:

After arriving

Before checking into accommodation

During an overnight stay

Before returning to Pattaya

If your hotel is nearby, having restaurants within convenient reach can simplify the evening considerably.

Tawaen Beach Restaurants on the Map

Tawaen is another logical area to combine beach and food.

A straightforward day is:

Arrival → Tawaen → swim → lunch → beach → second activity

That eliminates a separate restaurant journey.

For first-time visitors, simplicity has real value.

Koh Larn Things to Do Map

A useful activity layer would contain:

Beaches

Swimming

Snorkeling

Viewpoints

Photography

Water activities

Cafes

Restaurants

Hotels

The Koh Larn Things to Do page then explains the activities, while the map page explains where everything sits geographically.

Those pages complement rather than compete with each other.

Koh Larn Day Trip Map

For most visitors, the map needs to answer one practical question:

How do I turn Koh Larn into an efficient day?

A first-time route might be:

Stop 1 — Arrival

Orient yourself and arrange onward transportation.

Stop 2 — Primary Beach

Spend most of the day here.

Stop 3 — Lunch

Ideally near your primary beach.

Stop 4 — Secondary Activity

Another beach, viewpoint or cafe.

Stop 5 — Departure

Return with enough time for your planned boat.

This is better than trying to cover the entire island.

Koh Larn Half-Day Map

A half-day itinerary should be even simpler.

Pier → one beach → food → pier

That’s enough.

Trying to visit several beaches during a short trip means spending too much of your limited time in transit.

Koh Larn One-Day Itinerary Map

With a full day, you can expand the route:

Pattaya

Bali Hai Pier

Koh Larn

Primary beach

Lunch

Second beach

Viewpoint or cafe

Departure point

Pattaya

The exact beach combination depends on your interests and transportation.

Koh Larn Two-Day Map

Staying overnight changes the geography of the trip.

You no longer need to return to the pier in the afternoon.

Day One

Arrival → hotel → beach → viewpoint → dinner → hotel

Day Two

Breakfast → second beach → swimming → lunch → hotel/luggage → departure

This is one of the strongest reasons to stay overnight.

You can explore without treating the return boat as the center of the entire day.

Koh Larn Map for Couples

Couples can build a route around atmosphere rather than maximum sightseeing.

A strong couples route might combine:

Scenic beach

Cafe

Viewpoint

Late-afternoon scenery

Dinner

Hotel

This works particularly well with an overnight stay.

Koh Larn Map for Families

Families should simplify.

Instead of choosing attractions based solely on what’s most famous, prioritize logistics.

Look for a route combining:

Easy transportation

Beach

Food

Shade

Restrooms

Short transfers

Straightforward return

One well-chosen beach can produce a better family day than trying to tour the entire island with children.

Koh Larn Map for Solo Travelers

Solo travelers have more flexibility.

A solo route can easily combine:

Beach

Photography

Thai lunch

Second beach

Viewpoint

Cafe

But independent travel still requires awareness of return transportation and current conditions.

Koh Larn Map Without a Scooter

Pick destinations that work together.

For example:

Arrival → accessible beach → restaurant → viewpoint or cafe → departure

If staying overnight:

Arrival → conveniently located hotel → nearby dining → planned transportation to beaches

Choosing the right hotel can dramatically reduce transportation needs.

Pattaya to Koh Larn Map

The complete journey begins before the island.

The basic route is:

Pattaya

Bali Hai Pier

Ferry or speedboat

Koh Larn arrival point

Local transportation

Beach / hotel / attraction

This is the route first-time visitors should understand before worrying about individual attractions.

Walking Street to Koh Larn

Walking Street is geographically important because Bali Hai Pier is on the South Pattaya side.

Visitors staying around Walking Street or South Pattaya should first determine the best route to Bali Hai Pier.

From there, the island journey begins.

See How to Get to Koh Larn for the full transportation guide.

Jomtien Beach to Koh Larn

Travelers staying in Jomtien need to complete a mainland transportation leg before boarding for Koh Larn.

Think of the trip as:

Jomtien → Bali Hai Pier → Koh Larn → chosen beach

This is useful because many visitors mistakenly think only in terms of the boat ride.

Getting to the pier is part of the journey too.

Pattaya Beach to Koh Larn

The same principle applies to Pattaya Beach.

The route is:

Pattaya Beach area → Bali Hai Pier → Koh Larn → island transportation

Your exact mainland route depends on where along the beachfront you’re starting.

Koh Larn vs Pattaya on the Map

Seeing both destinations geographically helps explain why they serve different purposes.

Pattaya

Urban destination with:

Hotels

Shopping

Nightlife

Restaurants

Transportation

Mainland beaches

Koh Larn

Island destination centered around:

Beaches

Swimming

Island scenery

Snorkeling

Viewpoints

Short escapes

The two work extremely well together.

Koh Larn vs Jomtien on the Map

Jomtien provides a mainland beach environment south of central Pattaya.

Koh Larn requires a boat trip but delivers an island experience.

That creates an easy decision framework:

Convenience → Jomtien

Island experience → Koh Larn

Many travelers can experience both during the same Pattaya trip.

How Big Is Koh Larn?

The island can look deceptively compact on a phone screen.

Don’t translate visual map distance directly into walking difficulty.

Terrain, heat and roads affect how long and difficult a journey feels.

This matters especially when planning:

Beach hopping

Walking

Hotel location

Viewpoints

Family travel

Trips without a scooter

Use actual navigation information for your chosen route rather than estimating from a screenshot.

How Long Does It Take to Get Around Koh Larn?

There isn’t one useful island-wide answer.

Travel time depends on:

Starting point

Destination

Transportation method

Traffic

Road conditions

Weather

Stops

Availability of transportation

Plan individual routes rather than relying on one generic “cross the island” travel time.

How Many Beaches Can You Visit in One Day?

Technically visiting many beaches isn’t the same as enjoying them.

For most first-time visitors:

Two beaches is plenty.

You can spend meaningful time at each while still having lunch and perhaps another activity.

If you’re primarily photographing or scouting the island, you may want to move faster.

If you’re actually on vacation, slow down.

Which Side of Koh Larn Should You Visit?

Don’t choose solely by compass direction.

Choose according to the experience you want:

Convenience

Swimming

Scenery

Quiet

Food

Hotel

Viewpoint

Transportation

The best part of Koh Larn is the part that matches your trip.

How to Use the Koh Larn Map for Your Trip

Before leaving Pattaya, identify six things:

1. Your Pattaya starting point

2. Bali Hai Pier

3. Your expected Koh Larn arrival point

4. Your primary beach

5. Your second activity

6. Your return point

If staying overnight, add:

7. Your hotel

8. Dinner

That’s enough information to create a functional trip.

Common Koh Larn Map Mistakes

Assuming Every Boat Arrives at the Same Place

Confirm your specific service.

Choosing a Beach Without Planning Transportation

Know how you’ll reach it.

Trying to Cover the Entire Island

Choose priorities.

Assuming Short Map Distance Means Easy Walking

Terrain and heat matter.

Booking a Hotel Without Looking at Its Location

A good room in the wrong location can complicate the trip.

Ignoring Your Return Route

Know how you’re getting back before spending the afternoon somewhere remote.

Relying on an Old Static Map

Roads, businesses, transportation and services can change.

Use current navigation information alongside travel guides.

Best Koh Larn Map Strategy for First-Time Visitors

Keep your first trip simple.

Use the map to establish:

Pattaya → pier → Koh Larn arrival → beach → food → second activity → return

Don’t use the map as a challenge to visit every pin.

The purpose of a good travel map is to reduce unnecessary movement.

Final Guide to the Koh Larn Map

A Koh Larn map becomes much more useful once you stop viewing it as a picture of the island and start using it as a trip-planning tool.

First identify where you’ll arrive.

Then locate your primary beach.

Next, determine how you’ll travel between the two.

Add lunch nearby.

If you have enough time, add one more beach, viewpoint or cafe.

Overnight visitors should add their hotel and dinner location to the plan.

That’s the foundation.

From there, the map connects almost everything you need to plan a Koh Larn trip:

beaches, piers, transportation, hotels, restaurants, viewpoints, attractions and itineraries.

The objective isn’t to cover the entire island.

It’s to understand where everything is so you can spend less time figuring out Koh Larn and more time enjoying it.
